Obituary for Reginald Snively "Reggie" Keyes

Reginald S. Keyes, 77, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on October 23, 2018 at his home. He was born July 8, 1941 in Hagerstown MD to the late Frank S. and Mary Keyes.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte May Keyes, his son, Rick S. Keyes, and his wife, Angie, a daughter India Keyes, sister, Mary V. Rideout and brother, Russell Keyes, and his wife June, Grandchildren: Demetrius, Asia, Xander, and Hayden, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers; Frank Keyes, (Sonny), Vincent Keyes (Binkle), Kenneth Keyes (Pete) and 3 sisters; Arnetta Doleman, May Smith (Mazie) and Gussie Keyes.

He attended North Street School until the 9th grade and graduated from South Hagerstown High School, where he played basketball and ran track. He went into the Air Force for four years and upon returning to Hagerstown, began to work for M.P. Moller for a year. In 1965, Reginald went to work for Mack Truck for 42 years until he retired. He was a member of Ebenezer AME Church from a very young age until his death. He was active in his younger years as an usher and Sunday School teacher. He was a member of Pride of Hagerstown Lodge #278 and held many positions including being the house chairman for many years. He was Chief Antler of Blue Ridge Council #84, a member of Tri-State Association and Past Grand Exalted Ruler of the Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of the World. In his younger years he was a community Activist, sat on several community boards and was in the first black family to integrate the North End Community of Hagerstown. Reginald loved all sports. He played softball with the Hub City League. He was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Los Angeles Raiders (Oakland). He was a member of the Truckers Bowling League for over 30 years. One of his favorite pastimes was to watch Horse Racing.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 29, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Harman Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St. Hagerstown, MD. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 11:00 am at Christ Reformed Church, 130 W. Franklin St. Rev. Donald Marbury will preside. Entombment to immediately follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Joint Veterans Council of Washington County.
