Obituary for John Henry Jackson

John H. Jackson, 90 of Hagerstown, Maryland went to be with the Lord Saturday April 27th, 2019 at the VA Community Living Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Born March 6th, 1929 in Jefferson County, West Virginia. He was the son of the late James E. and Isabell Ferguson- Jackson.
He was a member of Second Christian Church and held many positions such as chairman of the board, trustee, and Elder. He was also a member of the VFW, DAV, the American Legion, Chosin Few, Korean War, Amvets, Third Infantry Division, and FOOP. He was also a member of the William F. Lodge #57 for over 50 years to the State of Maryland Prince Hall Masonic family and the United Supreme Council 33rd degree.
He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot in 1988 after 29 years of service as a locomotive engineer. He also served as a bailiff in the Circuit Court of Washington County, Maryland for 14 years.
He is survived by his wife Agnes Summers-Jackson of 58 years, Daughters Fledia Powell of Baltimore, Vickie Winston (Fredrick), of Kearneysville WV., Beverly Jackson, Evelyn Burnett (Thomas), Sharon Green (Ollie), and Barbara Hart (Milton) all of Hagerstown, MD. He was blessed with 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. He is also survived by a special son and daughter in-law Wendell and Rev. Jacquelyn Dixon of Martinsburg, WV and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and many others.
He is survived by 4 brothers, Berkeley (Naomi) of Queens NY., James (Isabell) of Fayetteville NC, Robert (Pansy) and George (Deidra) of Martinsburg, WV. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Isabell Jones, and brothers Charles, David, Arthur, and Lewis Jackson. He was also preceded in death by his first granddaughter Jessica Jackson-Otthiossiner.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 4th, 2019 at 11 am at The Greater Campher Temple 125 Bethel St., in Hagerstown, Md. Bishop Curtis R. Hayden will officiate. Burial will follow at Rest Haven cemetery in Hagerstown, Md.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday May 3rd from 6-8 pm at Harmans Funeral Home at 305 N. Potomac St in Hagerstown, Md. at the church 1 hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Second Christian Church at 65 W. North Avenue in Hagerstown, Maryland.
